Digital Inclusion Whanganui is a locally focused initiative working to understand digital exclusion in Whanganui, test practical responses and share what we learn.
Why DIW exists
More and more of everyday life depends on digital systems and services. Having a device and an internet connection does not necessarily mean someone can use those services safely, confidently or independently. DIW focuses on the barriers people experience in practice and on what can be done to reduce them.
A local approach
Whanganui provides a real-world setting in which to understand how digital exclusion affects people and communities. DIW works from local experience, while also drawing on research, policy and practice from New Zealand and overseas.
How we work
We listen to people, explore emerging barriers, test practical approaches, gather evidence and connect what we learn with community organisations, service providers, researchers, funders and decision-makers.
Our approach is guided by a set of First Principles covering purpose, equity, Te Tiriti alignment, evidence, safety, stewardship, transparency and the 4R Rule.
Independent and collaborative
Digital Inclusion Whanganui is an independent initiative. We work collaboratively with organisations and individuals where there is a shared interest in improving digital participation, safety, confidence and access.
Who is behind DIW
Digital Inclusion Whanganui was founded by Alistair Fraser and is supported through Crystal Adventures Ltd. The work brings together practical digital-help experience, community engagement, research and a strong focus on how digital systems affect people in everyday life.
